The Office of Social Policy convenes a committee which allocates the Hunger Relief Grants in early November each year.
The grants are intended for parish-based food pantries and meal programs to assist in providing food and clothing for the needy during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season.
The funding for these grants comes from two sources:
- The Christmas Appeal sponsored by the diocesan newspaper, the Catholic Courier
- The Operation Rice Bowl collection sponsored by Catholic Relief Services.

CCHD offers local and national grants. CCHD guidelines and application forms are below for the local grants.
The deadline for submitting an application for a local grant is the second Friday in April.
