Hannah’s Fund was established by Catholic Family Center to assist young women and men faced with an unexpected pregnancy and to advance adoption as an option in such situations. The fund is named for Hannah of the Old Testament, who longed for a child, yet gave him over to Yahweh when he was born.
The young women served by Hannah’s Fund are struggling to make a safe plan for their expected babies. Many need concrete help, such as a crib or other baby items to enable them to care for their babies. Those who choose adoption are helped with medical costs, clothing or rent assistance during their pregnancy. Services are extended to fathers and other family members as well.
Hannah’s Fund also helps us inform the community about our service to pregnant women and their families. We participate in Catholic Charities USA’s telephone hotline for pregnancy services (1-800-CARE-002). CFC pregnancy counselors are available 24 hours a day through the hotline. They answer calls from those who have just discovered they are pregnant to those who have recently delivered a baby.
Considerable advertising is necessary to make the public aware of this service. We purchase marketing materials at cost from CCUSA and have also developed our own materials. It is necessary to continually advertise and distribute these materials since an unexpected pregnancy is something that is only attended to when a family member is in need.
