Hannick Hall is licensed by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services as an Intensive Residential Drug Treatment program It opened in 1993 in response to an overwhelming demand for residential treatment for women and women with very young children outside of the Rochester Metro area. The program has beds for 20 women and 7 preschool age children.
The focus of this program is for women to develop the skills to achieve abstinence and maintain recovery from drug addiction. This means that treatment addresses all aspects of the person: mental, physical, emotional and spiritual. The average length of stay is six to nine months. Women who complete this program leave with a plan in place for continued recovery, usually with an outpatient drug treatment provider. Other services are needed as well to support parenting, education, employment, mental health, physical health and housing needs.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Women who are admitted must have a diagnosis of chemical dependency. The most frequent diagnoses are alcohol, cocaine and heroin addiction. The majority of women also have mental health and physical health problems. Examples include anxiety, depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, eating disorders, personality disorders, HIV, AIDS, diabetes, high blood pressure, multiple sclerosis, ob/gyn problems, sexually transmitted diseases, ulcers, migraines, etc.
Women in need of this level of care must, by regulation, “need substantial social habilitation or rehabilitation and have demonstrated an inability to remain abstinent outside of a highly structured setting.” Many times this means previous non-compliance or relapse in outpatient services. It also means deficits in education and employment, poor health care, poor problem solving and planning skills, poor social skills and a pattern of violent or abusive relationships.
FEES: The cost of this program is provided by Third party funding from county Department of Social Services, or SSI/SSD, self-pay or private insurance. Food Stamps are also a portion of the program’s revenue. OASAS certifies this program as eligible for Congregate Care Level II funds that come from DSS.
