Do You Need Interpreters?
At Catholic Family Center, we provide interpreter and translation services to our refugee clients in a variety of settings during their six-month resettlement period, ranging from airport arrival greetings and refugee social events to Social Security and medical appointments. In addition, our interpreters assist our employment staff with employment preparation trainings, job interviews and on-the-job-trainings for refugees for up to five years from their arrival in the U.S.
Our interpreting pool includes 33 Per-Diem and Senior Per-Diem interpreters, some of whom speak as many as five languages. Collectively, CFC interpreters speak nearly 30 languages, including: Amharic, Arabic, Bosnian, Dari, Dinka, Farsi, French, Hindi, Kirundi, Krahn, Krio, Kruwanda, Mende, Mai Mai, Mandingo, Nuer, Oromo, Pashto, Pidgin, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Tigrigna, Togo, Urdu, Ukrainian and Vietnamese.
CFC interpreters recently had an opportunity to attend 10 hours of Medical Terminology Training, given by two medical interpreters who work at Strong Memorial Hospital. More than two thirds of the interpreters were able to attend, and the training was extremely informative and a great success.
