About Sanctuary House, CFC's Shelter for Woman and Children
CFC responded to the increasing demand for emergency shelter for women and children by opening Sanctuary House in 2002. The former apartment building was completely renovated to provide a homey atmosphere to provide both emergency and transitional housing. This shelter was a wonderful addition to the emergency housing options in our community by being handicapped-accessible. The rooms are configured to provide several adjoining rooms as suites that allow large families to be accommodated together.
Meals are served in the dining room and there is a large lounge/living room area with a television and it is suitable for group presentations. A playroom is provided for the children, where 2 days a week an activity assistant provides arts and crafts and playtime for the children. Activities and programs are also offered in the evening for the women residents.
The grounds are beautifully landscaped which adds to the restoration to the neighborhood. At the same time the grounds allow for a large play area for the children and a secure parking lot. The grounds and building have a security system to insure the safety of residents, staff and volunteers.
