The primary goal of the senior center program is to provide a place where older adults can receive a nutritious meal, socialize, have opportunities to grow, learn, participate and develop new relationships. The Centers are also a place to connect with resources. A care manager and nurse visit the Centers on a regular basis and offer professional guidance to those that need it.
Each Center has activities planned every day. Please call for a monthly activities/menu calendar. There are also opportunities for groups to travel to area shopping malls, grocery stores, museums and local theatres.
Limited transportation is available.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Must be 60 years of age or older, or a spouse of an individual over age 60. Must live in Monroe County.
FEES: No fees, but a $2.50 donation is suggested.
PROGRAM LOCATIONS:
- Just Friends Senior Center, located at 800 Carter Street in Rochester, serves lunch at 11:30am Monday – Friday. Call (585) 336-4340.
- The Young at Heart Senior Center, located at 3000 Dewey Avenue in Rochester, serves dinner at 3:15 PM Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Call (585) 663-4374.
- Call Eldersource (585-325-2800) for the locations of the senior centers.
INTAKE PROCESS: There is no formal intake process. Anyone interested may come anytime without reservations. Call the senior center if assistance with transportation is desired. (Demographics will be collected at initial visit to center.)
OTHER INFORMATION/LINKS: There are 22 senior centers located throughout the county. Each has a designated geographical area in which they will provide transportation.
