CFC responded to the increasing demand for emergency shelter for women and children by opening Sanctuary House in 2002. The former apartment building was completely renovated to provide both emergency and transitional housing. This shelter is handicapped accessible, making it a wonderful addition to the emergency housing options in our community. Adjoining rooms can be configured as suites to allow large families to be accommodated together. Our goal is to provide homeless families and individuals with shelter while helping to move them into permanent housing.
Residents receive the following services:
Referrals are received for emergency housing from Monroe County Department of Human Services (DHS), Alternatives for Battered Women (ABW), Salvation Army, Monroe County Re-Entry Task Force, NY State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS), hospitals, community agencies, police departments, self-referrals and others. Clients must be homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Intakes are performed on site after arriving at the shelter. Intake Specialists complete an intake for individuals and families and, once finished, assign them a room.
There is no cost to the client if placed by DHS. Self-referrals and referrals from another program are considered on a case by case basis, and the fee is based on a sliding scale as appropriate.
