Women's Place, with 19 bedrooms, provides shelter for single women and women with children. This shelter, opened in 1989, provides a home-like setting with private rooms for families and single or double accommodations for single woman residents. The grounds and building have a security system to ensure the safety of residents, staff and volunteers. Our goal is to provide homeless families and individuals with shelter while helping to move them into permanent housing.
Residents receive the following services:
Referrals are received for emergency housing from Monroe County Department of Human Services (DHS), Willow Domestic Violence Center (formerly Alternatives for Battered Women/ABW), Salvation Army, Monroe County Re-Entry Task Force, NY State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS), hospitals, community agencies, police departments, self-referrals and others. Clients must be homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Intakes are performed on site after arriving at the shelter. Intake Specialists complete an intake for individuals and families and, once finished, assign them a room.
There is no cost to the client if placed by DHS. Self-referrals and referrals from another program are considered on a case by case basis, and the fee is based on a sliding scale as appropriate.
