Rochester, NY… For the first time, local high school art students participated in Catholic Family Center’s (CFC) Empty Bowls fundraising event as sponsors who donated their works of art (ceramic soup bowls) towards a cause aimed at helping to end hunger in the Greater Rochester Community.

“Empty Bowls is where artistry meets philanthropy, locally, and we were thrilled to have young aspiring artists from the local high schools engaged in this fundraising event,” said Kathy Grant of CFC.

Notable potters from all over western New York, including Cat Clay, Clayscapes Pottery and Created By Us, were joined this year by over 50 students from Mid Lakes High School in Clifton Springs and Our Lady of Mercy for Young Women in Rochester. These generous artists, young and experienced, donated over 900 soup bowls that they had crafted for this event.

Every dollar raised benefited people in crisis served by CFC in Monroe County. Guests selected and kept a handmade, one of a kind soup bowl donated by local artists, including students, who wish to remind us of all the empty bowls in the world and that you can make a difference for someone whose bowl is empty locally.

“This year, Empty Bowls Rochester was generously supported by over 100 potters who gave over 900 bowls; over 15 area chefs and restaurants who donated more than 15 different soups, breads, cookies, wine, beer and frozen custard; and over 400 guests who contributed such positive energy and support of our mission to serve those who are hungry in our community,” added Ms. Grant.

Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger at a local level. Events now take place across the United States and in at least a dozen other countries. Many millions of dollars have been raised and donated to hunger-fighting organizations like CFC.
